Veugelers PJ, Fitzgerald AL (2005)

This study investigated the relationship between childhood overweight and obesity and risk factors relating to dietary habits, activities, parents and schools.
Key findings: This research estimated the provincial prevalence of overweight to be 32.9% and obesity to be 9.9% among grade five children. The following relationships were also found: children who bought lunch at school were at increased risk of overweight; children who ate supper together with their family were at decreased risk of being overweight; children that received more physical education were associated with a decreased risk of overweight and obesity; children in high-income neighbourhoods were half as likely to be obese as their peers living in low-income neighbourhoods.
