This study compared the health care costs between normal weight, overweight and obese children.
Key findings: Physician and hospital costs in 11 to 14 year old obese children were 21% higher than in normal weight children. By the age of 14 years, obese children have already incurred $400 higher physician costs than normal weight children. Up to 3.4% of total health care costs in children aged 11 to 14 years are due to overweight and obesity.
